· Animal Monitoring
In June 2018 the Chair (co)organized a seminar in Utrecht on ‘Animal Monitoring Methods’, which dealt with existing and new techniques to monitor animal populations. Invited speakers from the Netherlands and abroad, gave interesting talks from their field of expertise. The audience consisted of 75 people, among which many students. The day after the seminar, an expert meeting which included the invited speakers was organized. A team of scientists and practitioners discussed how the monitoring methods are currently being used in nature conservation, and how data obtained from these methods could be used more efficiently, and shared, by nature conservation organizations. Currently, as a result of this seminar and expert meeting, a paper on monitoring methods is being produced.
· Latsis symposium

On June 13th, the Chair organized an expert meeting on lessons learned in forest restoration. The meeting led to a research done by a master student of Utrecht University, into lessons learned in reforestation projects executed by, or funded by, WWF.
· Innovation for Conservation Science
On 29 november 2017, Jaboury Ghazoul and Marijke van Kuijk both gave lectures during the NERN Current Themes symposium in the Netherlands, which had ‘Innovations for Conservation Science’ as a theme. Jaboury lectured on ecological concepts which might need revision based on the knowledge currently available. Marijke gave a lecture on the potential use of knowledge that is gained by performing meta-analyses, in nature conservation practices. The symposium was attended by 100 people, including many young researchers and students.
· Companion modelling
In April 2016, Jaboury together with 2 colleagues of ETH, organized a workshop on companion Modelling. Scientists of the UU, employees of the WNF office and other nature conservation organizations participated. The workshop showed how the ‘game playing’ tool can bring together different stakeholders and their view on landscape management.
· Strategy meeting WNF
In April 2016, WWF Netherlands invited a team of UU scientists to deliver input on the WNF strategy plans. Both Jaboury and Marijke participated on behalf of the Chair. The contributions by the Chair and other UU employees, were greatly appreciated by WNF.
· ATBC Montpellier
In June 2016 the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC) organized a large conference. Jaboury organized a session during this conference on the role of European consumption patterns on tropical landscapes. Marijke and Rene Verburg (UU) gave lectures during this session. A paper was published following the session. (Verburg et al 2019. An innovation perspective to climate change adaptation in coffee systems. Environmental Society and Policy, 97, 16-24)
